Fallone Surname

In my quest to research my surname it has always been apparent that the name is fairly uncommon – even back in Italy.

USA, UK, France and Argentina seem to have the most outside Italy – but even there it is unusual.

The USA and UK Fallones all appear to be immigrants from the general area around Lazio in Italy in the 19th Century – including my own Great Grandfather.

The UK Fallones number less than 40 in Scotland.

My research into the name suggest the following origin;

  • Italian: from an augmentative of Fallo, probably in the sense ‘error’, also ‘blame’, ‘sin’, or possibly related to Fallo, the name of a hamlet in the province of Chieti, which derives from faldo ‘layer’, ‘slope’.
Interestingly if you compare the distribution of the name FALLONE and FALONE in Italy it shows that the province of Chieti does indeed have the most FALONEs

This would indicate that it is most likely that the origin of the name is FALONE from Chieti and that at some point some FALONEs moved East and settled in Frosinone where the spelling ended up changed slightly.

Within Scotland there are two clear roots – my own Great Grandfather (Michele Fallone) and Antonio Fallone who’s descendants now are mostly in the Clydebank area. Both Michele and Antonio were born around the same time in Belmonte Castello and must have been related – I guess cousins at least – but unfortunately I have never been able to make this link. Interestingly they had children in similar years and called them their offspring the same names!

I have a lot of good research notes available and will be happy to share them via Genesreunited, Geni or email with anyone who is also researching the name.

I’d appreciate seeing your notes and any other info you could share. I am from Rhode Island, USA and my family is from San Giovanni Incarico, Frosinone, Italy. I visited there 2 years ago and found many Fallones still living there but couldn’t confirm relations. Thanks!

I am extremely impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Either way keep up the nice quality writing, it’s rare to see a great blog like this one these days..

Many Thanks for your kind comments.

I don’t update the blog as much these days as, like most people, I find social media like Facebook and Google+ are easier ways to publish my thoughts and pictures to my friends and family (which was the principle purpose of my blog originally).

The theme is free and can be found here. http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/librio
